Tender description
The design, manufacture, delivery, installation and commissioning for the European Spallation Source (ESS) machining station. The UK Atomic Energy Authority is a non-departmental public body carrying out research into the potential of nuclear fusion as a source of energy. The authority is responsible for the operation of the Joint European Torus (JET) facilities, via a contract between the European Commission and the UK Atomic Energy Authority. JET is the world's largest magnetic fusion experiment and is still at the forefront of fusion research and is closely involved in testing plasma physics, systems and materials for ITER. Remote applications in challenging environments (RACE) develops remote applications and robotics for use in both nuclear and industrial applications. RACE is also owned and operated by UK Atomic Energy Authority. The European Spallation Source (ESS) is a European Research Infrastructure committed to the goal of building and operating the world leading facility for research using neutrons. Once constructed in Lund, Sweden, it will provide new opportunities for research in a broad range of scientific areas, including life sciences, energy, environmental technology, cultural heritage and fundamental physics. Construction started in July 2014, aiming at the source producing first neutrons around 2020. The authority has a requirement for the design, manufacture, delivery, installation and commissioning for the European Spallation Source (ESS) machining station.
