Contract to run the Farm Business Survey (FBS)

Tender description

The annual Farm Business Survey collects highly detailed financial and physical data from a representative sample of all farm types and regions in England. There is wide variation in economic performance at the farm level, and the way in which the FBS links financial and physical characteristics at farm level means that it is an important data source to help understand the drivers of farm productivity and competitiveness; of particular relevance to Defra's priority to "Champion a thriving, competitive, British food and farming sector". The Farm Business Survey data conforms to common European Union (EU) wide definitions and are used to meet the EU legal requirement (EC 217/2009) to provide data for the Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN); used by Director General (DG) Agriculture to evaluate the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The data collected will enable Defra to meet EU obligations by providing data to the FADN which is used by DG Agriculture to evaluate the CAP, produce policy briefing and development, policy evaluations, briefings, answers to Parliamentary questions and ministerial correspondence and hold data-sets (via the United Kingdom (UK) data archive) for non-commercial use by academics.
