Tender description
Extra care housing schemes are specialist housing schemes for older people that have been specifically designed to maximise independence. All tenants have their own apartment with a front door and yet also benefit from the availability of the onsite care and support service. The supportive environment in extra care enables older people to live independently for longer. The Council is seeking a provider(s) for 2 new extra care schemes, Mill View in Hauxton and Willow Court in Whittlesey. Mill View is a new scheme developed by BPHA (Bedfordshire Pilgrim Housing Association) and is due to open in March/April 2019. The scheme is located in Hauxton in south Cambridgeshire, 5 miles south of Cambridge between the M11 and A10 near to Harston. The scheme will have a total of 70 flats, of which 45 will be 2 bedroom leasehold properties and 25 x 1 bedroom rented flats. Each apartment has its own front door, bedroom/s, lounge, kitchen and shower room with level access shower, wash basin and toilet. All apartments have a pull cord emergency intercom alarm system. A new extra care housing scheme has been developed in Whittlesey by the Longhurst Group. The new scheme, called Willow Court will consist of 60 flats spread over 3 floors. There will be 13 x 2 bedroom properties and 47 x 1 bedroom flats. The scheme is due to be completed by the end of October 2019. Each apartment will have its own front door, bedroom/s, kitchen and shower room with level access shower, wash basin and toilet. All flats have an emergency pull cords intercom connected to the alarm system. None of the flats in the scheme will be reserved specifically for people with dementia, however, it is expected that a significant number of people living with dementia could potentially move to the scheme.
