UHL has a requirement to procure for the provision of a cancer information management system that meets the current and future needs of a large acute Trust. A solution is sought that is designed to collect appropriate data throughout a patients confirmed or suspected cancer journey, in addition to supporting patient care, Cancer Waiting Times (CWT), Cancer Outcome and Services Datasets (COSD) in addition to the various clinical audit requirements. University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) is 1 of the largest acute teaching hospitals in the UK and has close links with the University of Leicester, De Montfort University and the Leicestershire community hospitals. Following the merging of 3 acute hospitals, namely Glenfield Hospital (GH), the Leicester General Hospital (LGH) and Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI), UHL was first formed in 2000. The Trust which falls within the East Midlands Strategic Health Authority employs more than 14 000 highly skilled staff and is the largest provider of acute healthcare in Leicestershire; providing a wide range of acute and specialist services to a population of approximately 1 000 000 people. With a total of more than 50 specialist services for both adults and children, there are over 2 000 inpatient and day case beds, and each year the Trust treats approximately 100 000 elective patients, 100 000 emergency admissions, 500 000 outpatients, and over 100 000 people in the A&E department. UHL has a requirement to procure for the provision of a cancer information management system that meets the current and future needs of a large acute Trust. A solution is sought that is designed to collect appropriate data throughout a patients confirmed or suspected cancer journey, in addition to supporting patient care, Cancer Waiting Times (CWT), Cancer Outcome and Services Datasets (COSD) in addition to the various clinical audit requirements. UHL is 1 of the largest Cancer Centres in England receiving approximately 40 000 2WW referrals per year and treating approximately 14 000 cancer patients. UHL has 25 active MDTs, running across 3 sites hosting 20 of the MDTs with live link with tertiary referrers and centres via videoconferencing. With the exception of the Breast MDT who run 2 MDT meetings each week, all other MDTs are run either weekly or bi-weekly. The vision for UHL is to provide an electronic patient record for all patients on a confirmed and/or suspected cancer pathway accessible by multi-disciplinary teams including clinical and non-clinical staff across the organisation to support improved governance of pathways, patient experience, pathway transformation, COSD and CWT data set submission in delivery against the national cancer standards.
