LYIT - RFT for the Supply of a Passive Optical Motion Capture System for Marine Testing & Fieldwork

Tender description

The Bryden Centre is a cross-border research centre for renewable energy projects, with offices in both Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) and Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). They require a passive Optical Motion Capture System which is suitable for use in small scale physical experiments conducted within marine and fluids engineering research laboratories. Primarily, the system will be employed in wave basin facilities where testing the response of floating and semi-fixed structures will be conducted between approximately 1/20th and 1/100th scale. The system will be used extensively in small and medium scale testing of marine structures. The system will be used in at least three (3) separate marine research laboratories located in Ireland and Northern Ireland. It will be used for motion capture of both floating and submerged elements located in two wave basins. It will also be used periodically for motion tracking of floating elements deployed during small scale field testing at both wave and tidal test sites in Ireland and Northern Ireland where it will be used to measure motions of small – medium sized raft structures which are estimated to be up to approximately 10m x 20m in size. The raft system may be installed up to 15m from the shore line.
