Tender description
As part of its remit Waterways Ireland has a duty to maintain the navigation and associated infrastructure on the River Lower Bann along which are a number of navigation weirs and locks including that at Carnroe located some 5 kilometres north of the town of Kilrea. To ensure navigation and the safety of users is maintained, Waterways Ireland is proposing to undertake rehabilitation works to the weir. The proposed works will be carried out in a manner so as to conserve the heritage value of the structure and to give a minimum operational life span of 75 years. Please note that this is not a call for competition and no tender documents are available at this stage. Also the process will not be utilised in order to preclude any future competition to be conducted by Waterways Ireland. The technical dialogue may also assist Waterways Ireland in the development of the procurement strategy for any subsequent competition. Recent inspections have shown that the condition of the weir at Carnroe has deteriorated and its structural integrity is compromised to a level that is not acceptable in terms of safety and its ability to perform its function. To ensure navigation and the safety of users is maintained, Waterways Ireland is proposing to undertake rehabilitation works to the weir. The proposed works will be carried out in a manner so as to conserve the heritage value of the structure and to give a minimum operational life span of 75 years. Please note that this is not a call for competition and no tender documents are available at this stage. Also the process will not be utilised in order to preclude any future competition to be conducted by Waterways Ireland. Without prejudice to competition in the market places, the purpose of this technical dialogue will be to examine and consider the various technical and commercial challenges which might present themselves through a competitive tender process to be advertised in the near future. The technical dialogue may also assist Waterways Ireland in the development of the procurement strategy for any subsequent competition.
