Tender description
The National Railway Museum is part of the Science Museum Group and this tenders is for the first phase of its transformation. We are the world’s greatest railway museum. There is nowhere that can better tell the epic story of the way rail has transformed the world we live in. We have a challenge – to tell that story to 21st century audiences in a coherent and compelling way. To fulfil our mission, we are planning a major project: To completely re-display our Great Hall – the 8 300 m2 centrepiece of the museum and one of the UK’s grandest exhibition spaces; To create Wonderlab – a 2 300 m2 hands-on gallery and learning space inspiring future engineers; To refresh and re-present our open collections store. Our aim is to complete these works in 2021 as the first phase of a wider Masterplan for NRM. The competition brief for the first phase of the transformation of the National Railway Museum.
