Tender description

Historic Environment Division sits within the Department for Communities (the Department) and is responsible preparing for publication the results of the excavation of Drumclay Crannog, a wetland habitation site in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. The Department is intending to publish a tender for bringing the post-excavation work on the crannog to a conclusion through completing the conservation of the artefacts and the compilation of a fully illustrated report suitable for lodgement in the Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland. The Department is intending to publish a tender for bringing the post-excavation work on the crannog to a conclusion through completing the conservation of the artefacts and the compilation of a fully illustrated report suitable for lodgement in the Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland. The report will record the stratigraphic development of the site integrated with the results of specialist analysis, cataloguing and discussion of the environmental and artefactual archive and interpreted in the context of its historic and archaeological background. The report as drafted must be suitable for full publication as a monograph in the Northern Ireland Archaeological Monographs series complementing previous publications such as Deer Park Farms, The Excavation of a Raised Rath in the Glenarm Valley (Lynn and McDowell 2011) and Harnessing the Tides (McErlean and Crothers, 2007). In addition, preparing a synthesis suitable for use as a popular publication, outreach events, sharing of knowledge through display, the preparation of educational materials, presentations, seminars and papers (popular and technical), and preparing the site archive for storage are also included in the scope of this contract. The contract will be split into 4 key deliverables: 1) Conservation of the organic artefacts; 2) Production of a full report. The report will be based on 5 sections (to include prelims and bibliography). For scale it is anticipated the completed report will have a word count of c. 650 000, accompanied by c100 tables/graphs, 600 illustrations and c. 600 figures and plans (note that where artefacts are being illustrated it is anticipated that one figure may have multiple objects in it); 3) Outreach and sharing of knowledge; 4) Maintenance, sharing and return of the site archive at the end of the project. A supplier information session will be held to give an overview of the size and scope of the tender, as well as information on how and where the tender will be advertised. This session will be held Tuesday 30 July 2:00 p.m. at Clare House, 303 Airport Road West, Belfast, BT3 9ED.
