Tender description
This works aims to provide an independent evaluation of the progress made in implementing the mental health strategy: together for Mental Health North Wales. We have identified that there is currently a fragmented approach to managing people in mental health crisis which can have a negative effect on these individuals and our ambition is to be able to provide a seamless integrated urgent care service for these individuals who experience mental health crisis or require immediate support, to prevent crisis in the community and avoid unnecessary hospital admission. This approach of prevention and early intervention will support people to maintain their independence and will enable care and support to be provided based on ‘what matters’ to the individual and thereby improving outcomes. Over the last 18 months Betsi Cadwaladr University Health board and partners across North Wales have worked together to develop a mental health strategy. This was developed through a process of co-production between staff from a wide range of sectors, people with lived experience, carers and this is the first integrated mental health strategy in North Wales that covers all ages; children and young people, adults of working age and older people. Our ambition is to promote the mental well-being of all people in North Wales and to ensure that people with mental health problems and mental illness get the support they need when they need it. Building on the model to transform community services specifically for the delivery of our joint strategy there are 3 Local Implementation Teams (LITs) established across North Wales, east, central and west as well as quality and workforce groups. A bid was made for parliamentary review money from Welsh Government to help support the timely implementation of changes and services required as outlined in the strategy. The parliamentary review document and the strategy itself describe in more detail the ambitions of the plan and where the investment is to be directed. A requirement of the funding is to also carry out a thorough, independent review of the progress made in implementing the Strategy, and whether the funding has provided a positive return on that investment.
