Survey of attitudes to the environment. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) requires research which aims to understand the public’s awareness, attitudes and behaviours in relation to the core policy remit of Defra through use of a large scale survey. In order for trends in data to be monitored over time, an initial survey wave has been undertaken as a pilot project in 2018/19. Following the completion of this pilot, the intention is for future survey waves to be commissioned, building upon the lessons learned and data captured, to progress this project over future years. This Defra survey on attitudes to the environment will provide data on public attitudes which can be embedded into the development and communication of policies, and shape the work which Defra undertakes. The survey is intended to fill existing evidence gaps which have been identified through a review of existing surveys commissioned both through Defra and through other government departments.
