UK Sport’s Athlete Medical Scheme (AMS) is a medical insurance scheme which covers the costs of healthcare of funded athletes who are members of Olympic and Paralympic sports world class programmes. National governing bodies, funded or unfunded, may also purchase places on AMS at an agreed cost by UK Sport, to provide medical cover to athletes not on a world class programme. UK Sport pays an annual premium to cover the costs of claims and, subject to approval and conditions of coverby AMS, the athlete receives healthcare. It is a free service to athletes and no costs are recharged to their governing bodies. It is a free service to athletes and no costs are recharged to their governing bodies. The existing policy comes to an end on 31.3.2019. The cover will run for 3 years from 1.4.2019: (i) with the option to extend for an additional 12 months; and (ii) with the option, at UK Sport’s discretion, to terminate at the end of each year during the term. UK Sport requires submission of proposals to become a commercial sponsor of UK Sport to complement AMS.
