The Intrepid is service critical workforce management IT solution used by Health Education Improvement Wales (HEIW) to manage the education, progression and training of the trainee workforce. Without this IT solution there will be disruption to the training of Junior doctors across Wales NHS resulting in an unacceptable service impact. HEIW are a special health authority within NHS Wales formed on 1.10.2018 and have a leading role in education, training and development to support high-quality care for the people of Wales. The Hicom agreement transferred to their ownership in 2018/2019. The placement of this single source contract to Hicom to extend IT solution support allows HEIW the opportunity to continue with critical service whilst undertaking a review and developing long term requirements to support education, progression and training of the trainee workforce for the future. Pursuant to the Public Contracts Regulation (PCR) 2015 Negotiated procedure without Prior Publication NHS Wales is intending to place a single source contract with Hicom from 1.4.2019 to 31.3.2021 with 2 one year options under Regulation 32 (2) (b) (ii) Technical reasons. The Intrepid system has been developed over the years to ensure interoperability with other Health Board systems within wales. No other supplier at this time can provide a system that will ensure continuation of service beyond 31.3.2019 due to the unique functionality that will need to be developed and validated.
