Summary of the work The opportunity is for a Senior Java Developer to deliver benefits of a products and services portfolio. A typical product offering is a web portal to enable visualisation of aviation data to enable weather-based decision making amongst UK aviation stakeholders. The delivery team will practise Agile methodologies providing cloud-based solutions. Specialist role Developer Expected Contract Length 12 months Latest start date Monday 15 July 2019 Who Speclialist Work With You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary user-focused digital delivery team, within a wider programme of work across the Business Group. You will work closely with the solution architect and other team members to design and develop a service/solution. What Specialists Work On 1. Join one of Met Office's Agile delivery teams in Exeter and develop software solutions for Met Office Business Group Aviation customers. 2. Provide a web portal to enable visualisation of regulated aviation data and information. 3. Provide technical leadership of a team to develop other products that meet the needs of additional Business Group sectors. Skills & Experience • Proven ability of developing robust and serviceable enterprise level code across a good number of projects, using Agile methodologies • At least 5 years' experience of coding in Java, Python or full stack web • At least 2 years' experience and working knowledge of AWS services including EC2, EBS, RDS, S3, Glacier, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, CloudFormation, Config, SES, SNS, SQS, IAM, VPC, and KMS • Experience of Testing Frameworks • Experience in working Agile methodologies, TDD (Test Driven Development) and CI & CD (Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery) • Excellent communication skills enabling team focus and interaction with all project stakeholders • Ability to prepare and present complex technical subjects to different levels of audiences Nice to Haves • One or more AWS Certifications: Solutions Architect, Develop or SyOps • Demonstrate knowledge of IT security principles Work Location Met Office HQ, Fitzroy Road, Exeter, Devon, EX1 3PB. Working Arrangments Located at Met Office HQ. Met Office operates using agile methodology including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprints, retrospectives and show & tells. Face-to-face attendance to all scrum events is expected. Security Clearance SC clearance is required, however, you may start work with Basic initially. It’s stated as a requirement: “At least 5 years’ experience of coding in Java, Python or full stack web” – however the title of the DOS publication is “Senior Java Developer” please could you confirm whether the requirement is for a Java developer or Python Developer or someone who can do both/either? We are looking for a hybrid developer who has experience coding in both the languages. However the project roadmap suggests that the development will have usage of Python more.
