Tender description

South Hams District Council coordinates the provision of lifeguarding services at a number of beaches in the South Hams district in both council and private ownership. The Council is seeking to enter into a partnership with a professional provider of beach lifeguard services with proven experience of the recruitment, training, management and delivery of beach lifeguard services. The beach locations requiring beach lifeguard services are: — Bantham Beach, — Blackpool Sands, — Challaborough, — Hope Cove, — Sedgewell Cove, — Slapton Sands, — Bigbury North. Observing best practice of lifeguarding principles and all applicable laws and regulations to carry out lifeguard duties at bathing beaches in the South Hams, Devon. The provision will include personnel, equipment and temporary lifeguard stations. The contractor will also need to provide operational management plans specific to each beach including risk assessments and safe methods of operation. The contract period would be 5 years with a discretionary extension of up to a further 5 years. South Hams District Council wishes to appoint the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) to provide a lifeguard service on beaches within the district and RNLI has agreed to do so.
