Refuse disposal and treatment

Tender description

East Sussex County Council invited tenders from suitably qualified contractors for the haulage, processing and marketing of approximately 50 000 tonnes of Dry Mixed Recyclables (DMR) collected by the Council’s 5 District and Borough Councils from tipping points located across the County. Waste Collection Authorities (WCAs) have a statutory obligation to collect waste from the kerbside. County Councils, as Waste Disposal Authorities (WDAs) have an obligation to provide places for this to be tipped and to arrange for its disposal. East Sussex contains five WCAs. They all currently retain the DMR that they collect and make their own arrangements for the processing. The five WCAs have or are soon moving to collect DMR, including glass, via a fully comingled doorstep collection service. From 29.6.2019 this DMR will become the responsibility of East Sussex County Council as a WDA to manage. Please see procurement documents for more details.
