Midlands Connect is an independent partnership of Councils and LEPs which is funded by Government to develop the outcomes of its Transport Strategy for the Midlands (published March 2017). The focus of the Strategy is to boost economic growth and contribute to the delivery of the Midlands Engine initiative. The purpose of this study is to review existing evidence and confirm the strategic case for improved connectivity in the A38/M42/A42 corridor. The focus of this commission is to: — understand the current economic role and function of the corridor, — understand how transport supports current and future economic activity, — understand the potential economic benefits of improving the transport performance of the A38/M42/A42 corridor, — understand the corridor specific growth potential in terms of both housing and job with and without enhanced transport connectivity, — understand the potential wider economic benefits of higher specification A38/M42/A42, — understand the relationship between the A38 and M42/A42 routes, and wider corridors, and — establish the strategic case for investment in the corridor.
