Tender description

UKAEA aims to establish a national programme (“the STEP programme”) that will explore the options, challenges and solutions for accelerating fusion delivery, seeking to identify a pathway to supply net energy by the early 2040s. STEP aims to produce net electricity; test components and whole systems in steady-state fusion operations; be tritium self-sufficient; have robotic maintenance schemes applicable to power plants and have decadal pilot plant lifetime with availability appropriate to scale to commercial power plants. The power infrastructure and delivery work package covers the whole-site energy balance for the STEP machine. This includes thermal to electrical conversion as well as power supplies for the magnets, additional heating system(s) and all other auxiliary systems. This PIN requests expressions of interest in a number of future opportunities related to this work package.
