Tender description

UKBIC is part of the UK government’s Faraday Battery Challenge. On the 29.11.2017, it was announced the consortium of Coventry City Council, Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, and WMG, at the University of Warwick,had been awarded 80 000 000 GBP, through a competition led by the Advanced Propulsion Centre and supported by Innovate UK, to establish a new national facility. Opening in 2020, the UKBIC delivers on the UK’s Industrial Strategy’s “Future of Mobility” Grand Challenge. It fills a strategic gap in the UK — facilitating scale up to high volume processes for battery materials,cells,modules and packs. Primarily for the automotive sector but with wider application. The planned cell production lines will be used to develop and prove materials, cell designs, manufacturing processes and parameters “at rate” prior to full plant Investments. Integrated assembly equipment to complete low volume production in a non-sequential lay out, expected to be controlled at a local MES level or equivalent. Manual assembly process with semi/full automated support. Data and controls to be integrated. May be multiple standalone assembly areas. Special purpose equipment for providing electrical connection of pouch cells or cylindrical cells to module bus bars using laser welding technology. Special purpose equipment for providing electrical connection of pouch cells or cylindrical cells to module bus bars using laser ribbon bonding technology. Special purpose equipment for providing electrical connection of pouch cells to module bus bars using ultrasonic technology. Special purpose equipment for providing electrical connection of pouch cells or cylindrical cells to module bus bars using ultrasonic wire bonding technology.
