A shared lives scheme can offer both long and short term placement for vulnerable adults. Accommodation is provided alongside the care and support by individuals or families in their own home and as part of the local community. The supplier will recruit, assess, train and manage the carers to ensure that all services, accommodation and the care and support provided, meets the needs of the people accessing the service. Carers are self employed and are not the employee of the suppliers. Shared lives may include: — long term placements, — short breaks, — rehabilitative or immediate support, — home share; where the carer moves in with the person needing care in their own home. Services are required for people with: — learning disabilities/autism, — mental health needs, — physical disability and/or sensory loss, — dementia.
