Tender description

A multi-supplier framework arrangement for the creation and supply of NetCat catalogue data to the British Library. The purpose of this procurement is to establish a multi-supplier framework arrangement for the creation and supply of NetCat catalogue data to the British Library. The British Library NetCat project provides for the creation and supply of MARC 21 catalogue records for publications in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. Currently there are 2 categories of publications: — printed monographs, — e-media. For each printed monograph the British Library will transmit to the service provider a package of scanned images of the prelims, dust jacket, title page, and other relevant material representing the printed publication. Additional data, essential for completion of the physical description, will be supplied in the form of a Data sheet containing a checklist with boxes ticked, as appropriate. For each electronic publication the normal method of supply will be individual folders containing publications in pdf format. The folder name for each item will display the title of the work and the Aleph system number. From these inputs, the service providers will create records according to the Specification of Record Content. Please note: we require records to be created in accordance with RDA (Resource Description and Access). Other work packages may require the supply of specific metadata, such as subject information e.g. Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) numbers, Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). Records are to be supplied via FTP file to the British Library on a regular basis to be agreed. The records supplied will be incorporated in the British Library Integrated Catalogue and used in the British National Bibliography (BNB) and in the Library’s data supply services.
