Provision of a UK shipping register and data on transfers of ownership in the UK shipping industry

Tender description

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK's largest independent producer of official statistics and is the recognised NSI for the UK. The Authority is also responsible for collecting and publishing statistics related to the economy, population and society at national, regional and local levels. Trade in Goods and Services are key elements of the UK Balance of Payments which feeds into the UK National Accounts. The Brexit context creates a need for more detailed trade statistics. With Eurostat recommending trading nations change from Flag of Convenience as the definition of economic ownership, the ONS is currently carrying out work to enhance its statistics by identifying additional data sources to support trade in goods and services relating to shipping. All data is intended to cover seagoing passenger and cargo carrying ships, unless specified elsewhere, with a capacity of 100 gross tonnes or more. The requirement for this data service is divided into three Lots, described as Lot 1 - UK shipping register Lot 2 - Sale and Purchase of UK owned ships Lot 3 - Bareboat chartering arrangements where one party is a UK entity Please note that the supplier awarded the Contract will be expected to be registered on ONS's Dynamic Purchasing System for Data 'DPS Data SaSiE'.
