Network Rail are introducing European Train Control System (ETCS) to improve performance and capacity. This requires provision of new and upgrade of existing training simulators to reduce dependency on live infrastructure. This pan-industry activity needs to deliver VfM but also the opportunity to optimise the overarching enterprise costs of simulation through providing greater and more flexible capabilities. There is no existing technology to meet our user requirements, consequently user and supplier collaboration and innovation is essential to understand industry best practice. We anticipate that a formal procurement process for the acquisition of driver training simulation shall commence during the summer.
