Market engagement to develop options for addressing county-wide rural digital connectivity objectives — comprising local access connectivity and potentially backhaul. West Sussex County Council (WSCC) and all District and Borough Councils (DBC) in West Sussex are in the process of developing a countywide digital infrastructure strategy that underpins the achievement of the county’s strategic priorities against the national policy context by building upon existing, and creating new initiatives that will deliver a high capacity, future proofed and sustainable connectivity infrastructure across the region. As part of the digital infrastructure strategy, West Sussex Councils are reviewing their role in relation to investment in digital infrastructure across the county region and are investigating how to further support and encourage investment from the industry to: — address not-spots in availability of local access connectivity, — ensure the county is future ready (e.g. for technology developments such as 5G and Internet of Things (IoT)), and — if required, improve supporting backhaul provision.
