Tender description

The Aquaculture Technical Section in BIM undertakes trials with the Aquaculture Industry in accordance with the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and the National Strategic Plan for Aquaculture. As part of its work programme BIM’s Aquaculture Technical Section purchases equipment for industry placement to facilitate the carrying out of work of benefit to the Irish aquaculture industry. In order to reduce exposure of juvenile salmon to naturally occurring diseases and parasites BIM would like to trial a temporary closed cage system. This system will be used to grow the salmon up to a maximum size of 1.5kg. there will be a maximum number of 5000 fish in this closed system. This tender can be divided into two parts. The tenderer must be able to fulfil both parts. 1) Design and feasibility of a flexible closed system for the growing of salmon smolts to a maximum size of 1.5kg. this will be performed in connection with BIM and industry partners and 2) The supply of a working prototype. Within the supply of this working prototype, scope should be left for potential modifications during he trial stages. For this reason, details on the logistics between the site of deployment and the manufacturer will be required BIM require that the system is flexible and can be deployed and removed using minimal equipment, as such rigid structures are not suitable on this occasion.
