Tender description

East Northamptonshire Council has been operating a food waste collection since August 2011. The collection of food waste is an opt-in service where residents have the choice to present a 23 litre food waste bin. For the Year 2018 the weight of waste collected per month was approximately 220 tonnes for the whole district. The Council requires a contractor to receive quantities of collected food waste material and dispose of it. This is an open procurement, compliant with Public Contract Regulations 2015. East Northamptonshire Council operates a kerbside collection of food waste material including: — raw/cooked meat/fish (including bones), — leftover food, — fruit/vegetable peelings, — teabags and coffee grounds, — eggshells, — cooking oil and fats (soak oils into newspapers), — nutshells. Approximately 2 800 tonnes of food waste was collected between November 2017 and November 2018.There are approximately 40 000 households in the district. The food waste is collected on a weekly basis. The district is nominally divided into “North” and “South” allowing refuse and recycling waste to be collected on alternate weeks alongside the food waste.
