Shunting Vehicle for Wheel Lathe

Tender description

Iarnrod Eireann (IE) operates an underfloor wheel lathe at their main engineering facility in Inchicore, Dublin 8. Currently, train movements in and out of the wheel lathe are undertaken using a capstan device which results in moving rolling stock in an un-braked condition against a gradient. IE propose to replace this capstan arrangement with a modern, self propelled and designated ‘Shunting’ vehicle capable of safely moving all variants of rolling stock and rolling stock sets (up to 350 Tonne Gross Weight and up to 140m in length) around the Inchicore site. The desired vehicle will be fitted with an oil free air compressor capable of lifting the brakes off or applying the brakes on a train to allow movement and will have features such as (but not limited to) creep control, interchangeable coupling devices (i.e. Scharfenberg for EMU/DMU and Carriages; UIC Drawhook for Locomotive and Wagons), driver station and remote operation as well as an automatic park brake system.
