Tender description

Oral health is important for general health and wellbeing. Poor oral health can affect someone’s ability to eat, speak smile and socialise normally for example due to pain or social embarrassment. The Oral Health Promotion Service aims to coordinate, facilitate, support and provide a range of evidence-based interventions to improve oral health and reduce oral health inequalities in Oxfordshire by: • Improving oral health promotion • Improving diet choices • Reducing consumption of sugary food and drinks, alcohol and tobacco • Improving oral hygiene • Collaborating with NHS England, dental practices, other healthcare professionals, early years settings, schools, community groups and other organisations to increase access to and improve patient awareness of NHS dental services • Identifying and targeting vulnerable groups • Providing training to frontline professionals The Dental Epidemiology service currently aims to carry out oral survey fieldwork for the PHE Dental Health Intelligence Programme (PHE DHIP) in accordance with the national protocol and timescales. The PHE DHIP has a five-year rolling programme in which the oral health survey of 5-year-old children is conducted every other year. The years in between the 5-year-old survey targets other priority groups, however local authority commissioners can choose to conduct local surveys that better meet their needs (although there will be no comparators if the survey is outside of nationally run surveys).
