Tender description
Sefton Council Soft Market Test - Another Place Pile Replacement. Another Place is an artwork by Antony Gormley. It is made up of 100 cast iron figures, locally known as ‘The Iron Men’, each weighing 650kg, situated on Crosby beach across an area over 3.5km long from North to South, stretching out between mean high water and mean low water approx. 750m from the sea wall. The Iron Men are welded onto a 3m steel (5mm thick BSEN 10210) buried pile and a number of these piles have corroded and failed, causing the Iron Men to lean. There are 2 aspects to the Expression of Interest: Firstly, the Council is considering replacing the failed piles but is looking for ideas from specialist contractors who can propose different methods of re-erecting the Iron Men on Crosby beach that provides increased longevity over the existing pile, whilst still providing the required stability. Secondly, as the environment is hazardous (tide and sediment) the Council is looking for a specialist contractor who is familiar with working in the intertidal environment that can remove the failed piles and install the replacement with the Iron Man fixed on. This market test is taking place in advance of any procurement exercise in order that Sefton Council can gather knowledge and ideas from the market that may in turn shape a future procurement exercise. The purpose of this market test is to identify potential partners. In order to contribute to this information gathering opportunity the Council requires you to compile a short narrative providing relevant information including illustrations/images and suitable examples of work. For the replacement piles the information should consider the following: • Fabrication • Maintenance • Timescales For the installation of the new piles the information should consider the following: • Extraction of existing pile • Installation • Fixings Other contributing factors The location of the individual Iron Men cannot be changed. The closing date for submissions is 12 Noon on 15 March 2018. The Council Officers will not respond to questions asked after 12 Noon on 13 March 2018 Should you have any queries please ask these via the Chest Messaging facility: www.the-chest.org.uk Keywords: coast, contactor
