Tender description
UKAEA are looking to collaborate with a partner organisation to establish a centre of excellence for training engineering apprentices at intermediate advanced and higher levels. The collaborative approach will be achieved by a governance structure, including a steering group comprising of a Training Provider employees, UKAEA and STFC employees. The training centre, OAS, will build upon the success of award-winning, established training schemes at UKAEA and the Science and Technology Facilitites Councils (STFC), who rely on a supply of highly qualified engineers to meet their business needs within the high-growth engineering sector. OAS aim is to deliver hgih quality apprenticeships to produce highly qualified, work ready and relevantly skilled technicians at a scale that will address the skills gap in Oxfordshire and the surrounding area. OAS is a brand of UKAEA and is a joint venture between the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). OAS will be a centre of excellence for training engineering apprentices at intermediate, advanced and higher levels, including degree. OAS aims to raise the standard of apprenticeships and produce high-end technicians. OAS will enable businesses to offer young people apprenticeships of the highest quality and provide training in a work place environment. OAS Phase 1 was operational in 9.2016 to deliver apprentice training, based at Culham Science Centre in an existing building. The forecast number of starts for 9.2018 intake are in excess of 45. The next stage is OAS Phase 2 in a new build facility based at Culham Science Centre. This will deliver quality apprenticeships to produce highly qualified, work ready and relevantly skilled technicians at a scale that will address the advanced technology and engineering skills gap in Oxfordshire and ultimately nationwide. OAS need to engage a Training Provider to deliver the second phase of its apprentice training at intermediate, advanced and higher levels OAS Phase 2 is a new bespoke training facility designed to train up to160 young people in any one year, the new building will be ready for the start of phase 2 training in 2019. UKAEA aim is to have 75 % of the Apprentices enrolled in engineering oriented apprenticeship schemes, as engineering is the main focus of the organisation and in keeping with the OAS brand and ethos. The remaining 25 % of Apprentices being in STEM related subjects.
