Tender description

The Authority has a requirement for the supply and installation of a Confocal Laser Scanning Moicroscope with Integrated Raman Spectroscopy. The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) based at the Culham Science Centre, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, OX14 3DB is a non departmental government body carrying out research into the potential of nuclear fusion as a future source of energy. The Materials Research Facility (MRF) is operated by UKAEA, it has been established to enable research on radioactive materials. This will include a range of operations in shielded research rooms (RR)s which are to be equipped with a range of testing and analytical equipment to enable the understanding, characterisation and development of materials to be used in challenging environments, such as atomic fusion and fission processes. The main function of the RRs is to provide shielding to operators whenever radio-active materials (up to 3.75GBq (60Co equivalent)) are analysed inside the equipment. For this purpose, all walls of the RR are constructed using at least 550 mm thick concrete. The MRF is looking to acquire a Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope (CLSM) with integrated Raman Spectroscopy with associated data acquisition, control and post processing software.
