Summary of the work User research for GOV.UK content and navigation intended to support UK nationals abroad Specialist role User researcher Expected Contract Length 2 weeks with potential for extension Latest start date Thursday 8 March 2018 Maximum Day Rate £650 per day Early Market Engagement User testing was conducted prior to launching the new navigation for a small selection of countries. Who Speclialist Work With The FCO's digital transformation unit is a small team, and on the digital side you'll be working primarily to the GOV.UK content editor, but also a product manager and consular digital lead. What Specialists Work On Plan and carry out user research with staff & customers for GOV.UK content, with a particular focus on impact of navigation changes including gov.uk/world pages in helping UK nationals abroad find what they need find and recruit research participants who are potential and past users of GOV.UK pages for UK nationals abroad Identify and prioritise user requirements for thiscontent and provide recommendations on any further changes to GOV.UK navigation. plan ongoing research that can be carried out by the project team after the contract has finished. test assumptions about users and the GOV.UK site answer specific questions about user needs Skills & Experience • Demonstrable experience in planning and scoping user research (15%) • Demonstrable experience in creating manageable user stories (5%) • Demonstrable in locate, schedule and interview research participants (10%) • Demonstrable experience in conducting remote research with international users (UK nationals based overseas) (10%) • Demonstrable experience in creating a plan and methodology for ongoing research that can be implemented by a project team (10%) • Demonstrable experience in identifying user needs which can easily be translated into recommendations where further technical changes are required (10%) Nice to Haves • Demonstrate user research on GOV.UK • Research for following a change to an existing website Work Location Work will be done primarily in the FCO's London office in King Charles Street London. There is an expectation that field research will take place meaning that some work will be carried out off site. It is not expected that international travel will be required to support this research. Working Arrangments The individual will be expected to work to schedules set out by FCO and to participate in daily meetings to report on progress and next steps. Reporting research findings to a number of FCO forums will be required. Security Clearance FCO offices are secure buildings and ideally the specialist would have SC clearance. If they do not, the candidate will need to be accompanied within the building. Hello, please could you confirm the IR35 status The FCO shall consider whether a handover period can be inserted into the contract which enables the FCO to buy a service (linked to milestones and/or sprints) rather than resources, which remain inside the scope of IR35.Further discussions shall take place on this with the successful supplier at the appropriate stage of the procurement. 2. Is there an incumbent already in the role? No there is currently no one in this role. 3. Is the 8th March the absolute starting date? it is in the middle of the week, and due to the short term contract, we were wondering if it was possible to start the week after? We are working towards a strict deadline for the work to commence. We want the successful candidate to start work as soon as possible (within procurement guidelines) This is why the work starts on this date.
