Kent County Council (KCC) is acting on behalf of the Academy of Public Health (AofPH) to commission a programme of work to train and develop commissioners in the wide Public Health system to optimise use of the provisions in the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 and beyond to add benefit to population health, prevention and sustainability in local areas. The programme will build understanding of how social value can be incorporated into the commissioning process to provide additional benefit to population health, prevention and sustainability across London and Kent Surrey & Sussex. It will also provide tools to support commissioners to normalise use of social value. This will include: • Development of tools/training products which will support the embedding of social value into commissioning processes within different organisations according to local need • Delivering, alongside the Academy, an event on 5 June to launch the training products/tools as well as to bring to together public health commissioners to progress social value within public health commissioning. • Enhancing knowledge and understanding of social value among public health commissioners, empowering the development of networks and communities of practice with the aim that these are sustainable following this work.
