Tender description

The mental health awareness training should equip members of staff with the skills and information to spot early signs of mental health conditions, so that they are able to have an open discussion with children and young people and point them to relevant the mental health support they need. The purpose of this mental health awareness training is to reduce stigma by shifting negative attitudes about mental health to enable early detection of mental health conditions. Previous years of the programme have delivered training to a member of staff in 2 000 secondary schools in England. In the first 2 years of the programme 2 000 members of staff in 2 000 schools will have bee participated in a youth mental health awareness one day course delivered by Mental Health First Aid. The key output for the third is to deliver appropriate mental health awareness training to one member of staff in the remaining 1 000 secondary schools between April 2019 and March 2020. Appropriate mental health awareness training should teach participants to: — Spot the early signs of a mental health problem — Feel confident helping someone experiencing a problem — Provide help on a first aid basis — Help prevent someone from hurting themselves or others — Help stop a mental illness from getting worse — Help someone to recover faster — Guide someone towards the right support — Reduce the stigma of mental health issues — Improve resilience and about preventative mental health — Build a mentally healthy school/workplace/community Specialist training skills To provide the appropriate number of mental health trainers who have been upskilled to deliver a bespoke mental health awareness training product appropriate for secondary school staff, which is applicable to secondary school pupils in a consistent way. Provide ongoing evaluation of the 2019-20 programme and independent evaluation report for each year. Demonstrate experience of delivering similar training courses and an understanding of MH policy. Project Management Skills Highly competent project management skills are essential for this project to monitor and ensure the successful delivery of the mental health training courses. This includes: mapping out how to identify the remaining schools to be trained; method(s) of delivery; engagement planning; identifying issues/risks and putting in place mitigating actions/contingency plans e.g. for those schools who may be more difficult to reach. Comms and Marketing skills Details of comms and marketing resource that will be applied to ensuring the remaining 1 000 schools are reached and at least one member of staff competently trained in each one. Quality Assurance skills Demonstrate how to quality assure the content of this awareness training - it is crucial that this training is delivered to a high and consistent standard due to the sensitive nature of the subject involved and to ensure the information communicated is safe for both the mental health trainers and those that receive training from them. It is recommended that the organisation or individual intending to submit a bid to the Authority should include a 10-minute video as part its bid which demonstrates a sample of the content and delivery of the awareness training session it will provide. Evaluation Produce project evaluation throughout the cycle of the programme.
