Tender description
Cambridge County Council has constructed a bypass around the southern outskirts of Ely between Angel Drove and Stuntney Causeway. The bypass crosses arable fields and spans the Bethnal Green to Kings Lynn Railway, Soham Branch Line and River Great Ouse via a flyover. The Scheme addresses capacity issues on the A142 Angel Drove and Station Road in Ely. The A142 currently passes under the Bethnal Green to Kings Lynn railway line via a low bridge (2.74 m high), with heavy commercial vehicle (HCV) traffic having to use a level crossing to the east of the under bridge resulting in congestion on Angel Drove and Station Road. Construction of the bypass was started in April 2016 and was opened in autumn 2018. Planting is to be carried out winter/spring 2018-19 for forestry transplants and late spring/early summer for wetland herbaceous species.
