Tender description

Contract for the provision of industry expertise to assist in the development of international and European equipment standards and regulations. Radio/Spectrum: — the design of commercial maritime radio equipment and ancillary devices, — an in-depth knowledge of the ITU Radio Regulations, relevant transpositions into UK Law and current possible revisions, — an in-depth knowledge of maritime frequency allocations and restrictions, — an in-depth knowledge of standards relating to maritime radio and practical applications, — a thorough understanding of the GMDSS and its implementation, — participation as requested at ITU, IMO, IEC, EU working group meetings and associated Ofcom stakeholder meetings. Navigation equipment and standards: — demonstrate in depth knowledge of the design and use of navigation equipment. Have an in-depth knowledge of and experience in the development of IMO Performance Standards for this equipment, — have an in-depth knowledge of the development of navigational equipment technical standards at relevant international and European fora, — be familiar with and ideally have participated in the approvals relating to the MED and RED, — participation as requested at ITU, IMO, IEC, EU working group meetings and associated Ofcom stakeholder meetings. Radar: — have an in-depth knowledge of the design, construction and operation of civil maritime radar and associated equipment, — have an in-depth knowledge of and participation in, the development of international standards relating to radar, — have familiarity with the current developments in civil maritime radar, — ability to conduct research into spectrum and equipment changes which may affect radar performance, — In addition to the above, proven expertise in chairing international meetings would be an advantage.
