Our remit is to ensure sustainable stewardship of the land and sea so that people and nature can thrive. It is our responsibility to see that England’s rich natural environment can adapt and survive intact for future generations to enjoy. The Project Thursley National Nature Reserve is managed by Natural England (NE). The land is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and incorporates a range of habitats including lowland heathland, mires and open water. The nature reserve has open public access and has a single public car park. This is in need of refurbishment to improve its surface and to improve visibility at its entrance. In particular, the new surface should be resistant to the development of hollows and puddles, so should be raised above existing level in places. The car park measures approximately 1300 m². Requirement NE require a supplier to act as a designer and contractor under the CDM regulations (2015), to widen the existing carpark by removing and disposing of the previous debris, then re-surfacing. This work involves the following operations: Widen car park to left of entrance (area approximately 200 m²) • Remove saplings and vegetation • Excavate to a depth of 300mm. (arisings to be graded into agreed location) • Lay Terram matting, or similar • Lay 75 – 100mm Fittleworth stone to a depth of 300mm • Roll Existing car park • Scrape off debris and vegetation • Supply 50mm Fittleworth stone. Lay to a depth of 150mm • Grade to ensure suitable camber and smooth surface • Roll using 7 tonne roller. 4 passes Timescale All works should be completed by 1 March 2019
