Tender description

MIL owns the Moyle Interconnector (MIC), a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) electricity connection between Northern Ireland (NI) and Scotland. Commissioned in 2001, the link provides 500MW of interconnection capacity between the NI and GB electricity grids. The MIC is a critical infrastructure asset to wider NI society and also offers support to the GB grid when required. MIL now seeks to upgrade various aspects of the control and protection system of the MIC. MIL published a VEAT notice on 23.10.2018 to inform economic operators of its intention to enter into a services contract with Siemens Aktiengensellschaft (Siemens). MIL entered into a contract with Siemens, effective from 5.11.2018. The contract is expected to run for 8 months and involves technical system studies and FEED services being performed on the various aspects of the control and protection systems of the MIC so a specification can be developed to provide for the overall upgrade to the MIC control and protection system.
