Manchester Metropolitan University (the University) was awarded university status in 1992 and is the largest campus-based undergraduate University in the United Kingdom with a total population of more than 37,000 students. Our claim is to be the University for World Class professionals with an emphasis on vocational education and employability. In order to attract students and provide a professional, modern environment for learning, the University now has an extensive new build and refurbishment programme. As well as physical links into the existing John Dalton Tower at multiple levels. The adjacent public realm works. Potential Refurbishment Element Potential refurbishment/remodeling/minor interventions/re-occupation of the existing spaces within the existing John Dalton buildings (circa 8 000 sq.m), and including the installation of the fixed and loose fixtures and fittings and equipment, but this element is subject to review. The demolition of the existing John Dalton East Building (Circa 15 000 sq.m), and public realm work/landscaping treatment to the area. This may form a separate package of works to be carried out after occupation of the new facility by the University. It is proposed that the development will provide teaching accommodation in the following proportions within the proposed 13 500 sq.m new build element: — office space 42 %, — laboratories 12 %, — general teaching 5 %, — self-directed and social learning 6 %, — circulation and plant 35 %. It is envisaged the construction of the new build will begin by no later than 55 with the new facility being operational by no later than 16.3.2023, and the refurbishment/remodeling/minor intervention of the existing buildings will begin by no later than 26.1.2022 and be completed by no later than 11.8.2023.
