PHE provides Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) services for microorganisms of public health and clinical importance and are currently using the Illumina suite of platforms. This contract is for the provision of purchase of Illumina bespoke(OEM) reagents for Illumina suite of platforms for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) services of public health. PHE provides Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) services for microorganisms of public health and clinical importance and currently using the Illumina suite of platforms. The WGS services wiithin PHE are carried out on Illumina HiSeq 2500, NextSeq and MiSeq platforms. Illumina are the sole/bespoke suppliers who can provide reagent kits for HiSeq 2500, NextSeq and MiSeq platforms at present due to patenting of the reagent chemistry and consumables /cartridge design which currently deliver the validated outcome. PHE also believes, as the Illumina platform is a closed platform, other reagents cannot be directly used in order to maintain the existing warranties, service contracts and accreditation with OEM manufacturer. Hence PHE will need to use Illumina bespoke(OEM) consumables for the primary sequencing platform for routine sample provision. This contract will be a provision to purchase the Illumina bespoke consumables. The duration of the contract will be for 2 years with an option to extend for another year.
