Tender description

The Authority is looking for suppliers for Market Research and Consumer Data for the United Kingdom (UK) and Global Food and Drink Industry and the provision of analyst assistance in assessing the potential for increasing UK exports to specified countries. On commencement of the Contract, the Contractor shall provide the Authority with immediate, online access to current and archived market intelligence reports and data and/or to detailed company financial information (depending which Lot(s) the Contractor has been awarded). The Contractor shall provide the Authority with online access for an unlimited number of Authority staff based in the UK, the DIT Food and Drink Export Promotion Team and the Authority’s Food and Agriculture Counsellor and associated team. The contract will be let for an initial period of 2 years, with an option to extend for a further 1 year. The extension option however will be subject to separate budget approval. The Contractor shall provide detailed and insightful market intelligence reports and data which covers the food and drink manufacturing, food and drink retailing, and the catering (foodservice) sectors in the UK. Data also covering the UK Food Packaging Industry and food packaging trends to be included. The Contractor shall provide detailed food and drink industry market intelligence data for the USA, China, Ireland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Hong Kong, Japan, India, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Data and market intelligence reports provided for these countries shall cover a wide variety of food and drink products by retail market size, sales, and volume and provide detailed market segmentation, company market shares, brand market shares and forecast growth rates. The Contractor shall also provide detailed data on the food and drink retailing, and catering sectors in these countries along with socio-economic data. The Contractor shall provide detailed, searchable, company financial information on both stock market listed and private food and drink manufacturing, food and drink wholesaling, grocery retailing, and catering/foodservice companies operating in the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic. The Contractor shall ensure that a wide variety of both current and historical company financial details on issues such as but not limited to company turnover, pre-tax profit, profit margins, return on capital, staff employed, wages, capital expenditure, etc is accessible and available online to the Authority. This data shall be available not only for the main operating unit of a company but also for any significant subsidiaries for which company returns are filed. The Contractor shall provide detailed market intelligence reports which cover global grocery retailing markets. The ability to read analytical reports and content written by the contractor as well as create self-generating reports in relation to Defra specific queries. The Contractor shall ensure that the global grocery retailing reports cover a wide variety of countries and territories including all European Union member states, the USA, Canada, Mexico, China, India, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Nigeria, and South Africa. The global grocery retailing reports and data shall cover a wide variety of areas and sectors including hypermarket retailing, supermarket retailing, convenience retailing, and online grocery retailing. All major retail firms in these sub-sectors shall be covered. Key datasets which shall be covered in the global retailing reports and accessible online resources are store sites, sizes and formats, corporate structures, historic and forecasted sales data, product portfolios, market shares, promotional strategies, supply chain strategies and analysis, and consumer trends and responses to recent developments in global grocery retailing.
