The purpose of the air quality forecast is to predict, on a daily basis, likely concentrations of pollutants known to affect health. This informs additional advice issued to the UK population during periods of high air pollution as well as ensuring compliance with the EU's Ambient Air Quality Directive. This informs additional advice issued to the UK population during periods of high air pollution as well as ensuring compliance with the EU’s Ambient Air Quality Directive. Forecasted air pollution levels for the whole UK will be presented in terms of the Daily Air Quality Index (DAQI). The index has been developed so that the health effects and associated advice are consistent for each level across all species of pollutant. The overall DAQI level for each forecast grid point is the highest level across all individual pollutants.
