Tender description
The works will comprise the non-destructive testing of the NIR network (including main lines, sidings, a mothballed line and passing loops) over a length of approximately 295 miles. Testing should predominantly be completed using ultrasonic testing. Testing is to be carried out annually and in accordance with the standards listed in the scope. Testing is to be completed at a speed of not less than 10 mph using rail mounted plant typically in either a trailer type arrangement or a self-propelled possession only rail vehicle. A suitable means of hauling the test kit will be required. The works will comprise the non-destructive testing of the NIR network (including main lines, sidings, a mothballed line and passing loops) over a length of approximately 295 miles. Testing shall include plain rail, crossings, check-rails and adjustment switches. Testing should predominantly be completed using ultrasonic testing but where this is neither possible nor practical, then testing should be completed by other means such as dye penetrant testing, magnetic particle inspection or visual inspection. The possible presence of gauge corner cracking shall also be investigated and reported on. Testing is to be carried out annually and in accordance with the standards specified in the scope. Testing is to be completed at a speed of not less than 10mph using rail mounted plant typically in either a trailer type arrangement or a self-propelled possession only rail vehicle. A suitable means of hauling the test kit will be required. NIR can provide a locomotive or multi-purpose infrastructure vehicle capable of towing any such kit. Otherwise, any proposed vehicle shall have to attain a certificate of engineering acceptance in line with NIRs standard. Responsibility for couplings, connections, etc, will be down to the successful bidder, and with the agreement of NIR.
