United Utilities Water Limited (UU) operates a fleet of approximately 200 specialist HGV vehicles. We have a requirement for temporary staff to operate the vehicles for contract work and to cover company staff during sickness and leave. The staff will need to be able to cover work areas as required in any of the company’s operational areas – as far north as Carlisle and as far south as Crewe. UU is looking for an agency who would be able to supply specialist staff who need to be trained in all aspects of the Company’s water and wastewater vehicle operations including the use of suction, injection and jetting equipment. The Supplier will be able to react quickly to short turnaround staff requirements required at any of the company’s 575 wastewater works or 96 clean water works. Some of the staff will be taken on as company staff full time using a temp-to-perm arrangement where the recruitment agency would be paid a finder’s fee. UU are looking for a provider who can work in close partnership with the company for the provision of temporary staffing services for HGV drivers. UU will assist with training the staff, and work closely with managers within Clean water, Waste Water and Bio-resources networks. Proactive Planning, scheduling, rotas and sharing of management information with the company is a key aspect of this service provision. The Supplier will need to work in a manner which may be reactive and fast paced due to the nature of the work that the company undertakes. The requirements of the driving staff are as follows: Type 1: Environmental Services — Wastewater Interworks/Sludge. The vehicles used in this area are vacuum tankers and bulk tipper trucks which vary in size from 26 to 44 tonne. This operation undertakes the transfer of sewerage sludge from the Companies sites, across the whole United Utilities footprint from Crewe to Carlisle. Driver requirements - Category C+E LGV licence and trained/certified in the use of Vacuum Waste Tankers for the carriage of liquid sewage sludge and Bulk Tipper Trucks for carrying sewage sludge cake. Type 2: Environmental Services — Vactor Services. Drivers/operators are required to undertake industrial cleaning of the Company’s Water and Wastewater operational assets, utilising high air flow suction units and high pressure water jetting equipment. The personnel will be required to enter high risk confined spaces, operate high pressure water jetting equipment up to 10 000 psi and hold a category C licence as a minimum requirement. Without the water jetting and confined space training individuals cannot work. Driver/Operator requirements – Category C LGV licence and trained/certified in High Risk Confined Space Entry and the use of High Pressure Water Jetting Equipment. Type 3: Emergency Plant Fleet. They will primarily operate UU’s alternative water supply tanker fleet but also deliver / operate other plant and equipment to support planned and reactive activities. To maintain a 24/7 operation there is a need to provide backup drivers to support the response to incidents and events also to cover illness and holidays. Agency Drivers in this area may be required to off load plant as part of their role so must be fully trained competent personnel with the relevant lifting gear training. HGV tanker driving experience is required.
