Tender description
Medway Council operates a weekly kerbside recycling service to its residents. As part of this service, the Council provides containment to residents free of charge to separate out the recycling waste materials. Residents are required to present materials for recycling in the following specific containers: Paper/Card – Blue 55L reusable bag. Plastic/Glass/Metal – White 55L reusable bag or clear recycling sack. Our waste contractor, Veolia, currently delivers on of each type of reusable bag to properties upon the residents’ request. In addition to this, Medway Council also provides a roll of 13 clear sacks to every property each 13 weeks. These deliveries are included in the current price per household of the current refuse and recycling collection contract. The clear sacks are also provide to flats that cannot accommodate a recycling bin, the provision of clear sacks enables the residents to participate in the recycling service. In order to encourage residents to recycle as much as possible (and reduce the cost of onward disposal of their waste) Councillors decided to make all recycling bags (reusable and clear sacks) available free of charge from Contact Points and Libraries. This enables residents to have as more bags should they need them. Medway Council provides a weekly kerbside organic waste collection service, residents are provided with either a 240-litre brown bin or a 23-litre container. Waste Services additionally provide 5-litre food caddies at no extra charge; caddies are used inside property for the purpose of collecting food waste. Waste Services sell food caddy liners for £2 for a roll of 26. Caddies and liners are available from contact points and local libraries The supply of bags for the above is provided by Waste Services at a cost outside of the current refuse and recycling collection contract. In order to secure the most competitive prices, reliable supply and to comply with procurement policy Waste Services are running a procurement process for the supply of reusable bags, clear recycling sacks and additionally compostable liners.
