Tender description

The University is embarking on a programme to create a wholly new campus on a brown field site providing state-of-the-art facilities and technology, the new campus will open in September 2018 academic year. A 995 KW Herz Biofire biomass boiler has been installed in the Energy Centre at Waterside Campus. This will provide the baseload heat to the campus wide district heating system. The boiler uses and infeed auger to a storage silo. The silo has a usable volume of 88 m3. The University is seeking a reliable high quality supplier of woodchip to fuel the biomass boiler. It should be noted the University is seeking to supply the fuel in a sustainable way and minimize embedded carbon emissions such as through the woodchip delivery and manufacture. The Contract will include the delivery of an estimated annual requirement of 4 750 000 kWh will be required per year. The University is seeking a reliable high quality supplier of woodchip to fuel the biomass boiler. It should be noted the University is seeking to supply the fuel in a sustainable way and minimize embedded carbon emissions such as through the woodchip delivery and manufacture. The University has a target to reduce C02 emissions by 2020 so it is imperative the biomass boiler continuously stocked during its operation to reduce the use of gas boilers. The Contractor shall make deliveries of biomass fuel before 8:00 am in the morning with an estimated 6-7 per week. Delivery in a 30-40 m3 sized vehicle due to space limitations for an artic lorry. The Contract will include the delivery of an estimated annual requirement of 4 750 000 kWh per year. G50/MC 25 % (+/-5), BSL authorised virgin timber. Under no circumstances will the woodchip contain waste wood, slab wood, pallets, wood shavings, arb chip or other material derived from non-virgin timber Roundwood unless approved by the contract administrator. Tenderers shall provide a detailed methodology in their proposals how and where they will source the wood, manufacture the woodchips, dry them to the specified moisture content and delivery them to site.
