Research Study into the Establishment, Formation and Early Stages of High Growth Start-Ups in the North East LEP Area

The Council, on behalf of the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is seeking to appoint a suitably experienced contractor to undertake a business research study to inform the development of a Local Growth Funded (LGF) business support programme focused on increasing the rate of high growth start-ups in the North East LEP area. The North East LEP requires a research study to be undertaken that explores in detail the different journeys experienced by a group of entrepreneurs who grew their businesses beyond £1million turnover within three years of formation. The research study must comprise three elements: • A data driven identification of a research group of high growth start-ups located in the North East LEP area with analysis of business statistics and trends; • Interviews with a proportion of the businesses identified in the research group in order to inform the research in terms of issues, considerations, barriers and opportunities for high growth start-up; • A literature review in order to further address and deepen insight on the above questions. This could include academic research on entrepreneurship and learning from business support start-up programmes. The appointed contractor will be required to provide recommendations to the North East LEP’s Business Growth Board on the considerations that should be taken in to account in designing business support activity which stimulates greater rate of high growth start-up in the North East.
