Tender description
NI Water is the largest consumer of electricity in Northern Ireland, consuming circa 290 gigawatt hours of electricity pa across over 3 000 sites ranging from 168 000 kWhrs /day to less than 100 kWhrs /day. NI Water’s treatment works and distribution network are capital intensive with a range of large scale plant and equipment. NI Water is committed to reducing its energy usage and carbon emissions and has already implemented a number of initiatives to achieve this. These include the incorporation of renewable generation, optimisation of NI Water treatment processes and the replacement of inefficient equipment with new equipment. NI Water is committed to exploring other options to achieve more reductions. NI Water is committed to reducing its energy usage and carbon emissions and has and has already implemented a number of initiatives to achieve this. These include the incorporation of renewable generation, optimisation of NI Water treatment processes and the replacement of inefficient equipment with new equipment. NI Water is interested in running a tender process, which will include a pilot exercise at three sites, to establish a contract for an innovative electricity saving technology product, which can be installed at any treatment work or pumping station for around 50 out of the top 70 energy consuming sites within NI Water’s estate. It is envisaged that the pilot would be run across 3 sites (Water Treatment Works (WTW), Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW) and Water processing Site (WPS) /Raw Water processing Site (RWPS)) with a full roll out to an additional 47 sites over an 18 months period. The electricity saving product must not compromise NI Water’s ability to treat and distribute safe, clean drinking water or collect and treat wastewater. Neither must the electricity product affect the performance of NI Water’s plant and equipment other than to reduce the amount of electricity consumed. Northern Ireland Water would expect the equipment to be easily retro fitted to existing installations within a couple of hours and can switched on as soon as installed. This opportunity is not for: — advice on how to reduce electricity use, — software or hardware to monitor electricity use, — power purchase agreements, — mechanisms to reduce the cost of electricity, — to generate revenue from NI Water’s plant and equipment, or — products that are not market ready, — process or mechanical asset optimisation, — voltage reduction. NI Water is providing an opportunity to meet with potential providers to gain a greater understanding of the technologies currently available in the market place. If you would like to meet with NI Water, please respond via sourcing@niwater.com with a 300 words overview of your product and how it reduces electricity consumed by COP 31.8.2018. NI Water will meet companies able to demonstrate they have a market ready product which will reduce electricity consumed by NI Water’s plant and equipment without compromising NI Water’s primary function as a water and wastewater undertaker.
