Wakefield Council is commencing a procurement process to identify an organisation to provide a water sport provision at Pugney’s Country Park. As part of this this process the Council is carrying out preliminary market consultation to ensure that the proposed scope of the project is both feasible and commercially viable. After taking the decision to stop direct delivery of water-sports at Pugney’s Country Park the Council is looking at other operating models that could allow water-sports activity to continue and be provided by a third party. A vibrant water-sports offer at the site has the potential to increase visitor footfall and hence attract people from outside of the district into Wakefield, not only contributing to the local economy, but also improving the health of the population.
