Belfast was officially announced as one of 13 cities to receive an award from the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s Local Full Fibre Network Programme. The project, led by Belfast City Council, recognises that the provision of quality, reliable high-speed connectivity is a necessity for a 21st century economy and society. The Council has identified an opportunity for the use of public sector duct assets to increase the commercial availability of fibre networks. This is part of the Council’s Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) initiative and is referred to as Public Sector Asset Reuse (PSAR). The Council has identified an opportunity for the use of public sector duct assets to increase the commercial availability of fibre networks. This is part of the Council’s Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) initiative and is referred to as Public Sector Asset Reuse (PSAR). The Council seeks to procure a suitably qualified contractor to survey the duct assets. The objective is to enable the council to assess if a robust business case exists in determining if, and how, these duct assets could be made available to the market. The Council has appointed FarrPoint to provide support through the LFFN procurement. A market information day was held on 3rd August as advertised on the council website. Thursday 23rd August from 14:00 – 16:00 at the Council offices (9 Adelaide Street Belfast, BT2 8DJ) has been allocated to host another market information day upon request for any organisation that missed this session. The information session has a dual purpose of covering the procurement of a survey, and also to look at the appetite of the market in utilising the ducts.
