Babcock DSG Limited, acting as agent for the UK Ministry of Defence, intends to negotiate a single source contract with Safran electronics and defence for the Challenger II Commanders control handle mid-life modification and upgrade. These articles were the subject of a PDS contract between Safran electronics and Defence and the UK Ministry of Defence to design a modification to prevent the ingress of water into the commander control handle. This situation prohibits the effective use of the commander control handle and the safety of the occupants within. The UK Ministry of Defence intends to negotiate a single source contract with Safran electronics and Defence to undertake the modifications to the articles.
